What Does It Take To Get A Real Estate License?
With the real estate market as hot as it is, there's good money to be made if you get your real estate license. If you want to get your license, there are several steps you need to take.
Make Sure You Can Pass a Background Check
A real estate salesperson has to be able to handle people's money and protect their private information. This means that it's harder to get a real estate license if you don't have a clean background check.
If you've had any issues in your past that you think might disqualify you, you should get legal advice before you invest in getting a real estate license. Some things may not disqualify you, but you need to get an answer on whether they will first. In addition, it's possible to have old charges expunged from your criminal record so that they won't be held against even if they normally would.
Attend Classes
In order to get a real estate license, you need to pass a class. There's a minimum number of hours of training required. This teaches you both how to make money and how to follow the rules of being a real estate agent.
The hours and training requirements vary by state. Therefore, you need to check that the class you want to attend is offered for your state. In most places, you can take an online class at your convenience.
Pass the Test
Once you finish your classes, you have to pass an exam to get your license. This is separate from any tests or quizzes in your classes. The purpose of this test is to make sure that your course taught you everything you need to know. The licensing test also has extra security to make sure that you're the one taking it and you aren't cheating your way through it.
Find a Broker
When you get started as a real estate agent, you can't work on your own at first. Instead, you need to find a broker. A broker is responsible for supervising you and making sure that you follow all of the rules. They should also help you refine your business practices so that you can make more money.
Finding a broker isn't exactly like finding a job. Instead of the broker paying you a salary, you usually keep your sales and give the broker a small percentage for their services.
